Strategies to electrify transportation in California will improve public health, spur manufacturing, and create new economic opportunities for California families, businesses, and consumers. California should lead the nation in building a transportation system that works for all, especially residents of disadvantaged communities, low-income households, children, and the elderly.
But just when we need to accelerate efforts to expand access to electric mobility options, our leaders in Sacramento appear to be pulling back – risking jobs, a decline in air quality, and the future of the state’s innovation economy.
With the federal government threatening California’s authority to build the transportation system of the future, we urge the Governor and the legislature to ramp up, not scale back, our efforts and lay out a strong vision to provide clean transportation for all.
90% of Californians suffer from unhealthy air at some point during the year.
Pollution from passenger vehicles costs California $15 billion in health and climate impacts each year.
Electric vehicle adoption could create more than 390,000 new jobs in the next 10 years.
Zero-Emission Vehicles were California’s number one manufacturing export in 2019
The transportation sector is California’s largest source of pollution, which disproportionately impacts disadvantaged low-income communities of color. Governor Newsom and legislators should take a bold step forward to advance clean transportation efforts statewide. Industry, public health, and environmental justice groups agree that the time is right to accelerate the zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) transformation so all Californians can reap the benefits of clean cars, trucks, and buses.
Take the pledge to send a message to Governor Newsom and state leaders: Secure California’s clean transportation leadership, clean our air, and support local jobs and healthy communities.
